Tihar Inmate Stabbed As Fight Erupts Between Rival Gangs

Victim Hitesh, identified as a member of the Gogi gang, is undergoing treatment. Two members of the Tillu Tajpuriya gang have been identified as the other side involved in the fight.

An inmate at Delhi's Tihar Jail was stabbed in a fight on the premises between members of rival gangs, police said on Thursday. Hitesh, who is an undertrial in a murder case, was injured in the fight and rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, they added, according to a PTI report.

A police officer was quoted as saying by PTI that the fight allegedly broke out around 11.15 am on Wednesday. The officer identified Hitesh as a member of the Gogi gang, and the other side in the fight as two members of the Tillu Tajpuriya gang.

Quoting sources, the PTI report said Hitesh was stabbed with a weapon similar to an ice-pick.

"On Wednesday, a matter was reported in Hari Nagar Police Station from DDU that an injured man from Tihar jail has been brought to the hospital. Based on that, the local police reached the hospital and inquired about the matter," Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Vichitra Veer was quoted as saying by PTI.
