Scolded By Father For Eating Junk Food, 19-Year-Old Girl Hangs Self In Nagpur

Bhumika Vinod Dhanwani, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), resided in Sindhi Colony area of Nagpur in Maharashtra.

A 19-year-old female student allegedly hanged herself to death at home in Maharashtra's Nagpur after being scolded by father for eating junk food, police said on Tuesday. 

Bhumika Vinod Dhanwani, a student of Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), resided in Sindhi Colony area of the city, according to PTI. 

"Bhumika was a student of BBA and had a thyroid problem. Upset over her father scolding her for eating junk food, she hanged herself in the kitchen using a long cloth," an official of Pratap Nagar police station said.

"Her family members found her hanging this morning, following which she was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared dead," the official said adding that a case of accidental death has been registered. 

In another case of suicide in Uttar Pradesh, a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his wife using a sharp weapon on Monday after an argument over delay in serving him lunch and then died by suicide by hanging himself in his house in Sitapur, as per PTI.

The deceased have been identified as Prema Devi (28) and her husband Parasram, while the incident took place in Kotwalanpurwa village of Thangaon police station area.

The angry husband first attacked and killed his wife with a sharp weapon and then, fearing that he would have to go to jail, committed suicide by hanging himself inside the house, the SHO said.

According to police, Parasram returned home after working in the fields on Monday afternoon and asked his wife for food. The lunch was not ready when Parasram reached home. Due to the delay in getting food, the husband got angry and an argument between the couple took place which escalated to such an extent that he killed his wife by repeatedly attacking her with a sharp weapon. After the incident, the accused locked himself in the room and committed suicide by hanging himself.

Earlier in January, a 15-year-old girl allegedly hanged herself in Kota after being scolded by her father for playing on his mobile phone, according to police.

The incident took place in the Bajrang Nagar area under the Borekheda police station in Kota city on Saturday night. The deceased, Kripanshi (15), was a student of Class 10.

At around 8 pm, when her family members called her for dinner but received no response, they broke the door open and found Kripanshi's body, police said.
