When the woman resisted, they snatched away the baby girl and flung her from the speeding cab, the woman told police, as per the PTI report. The child died on the spot, the woman too was pushed out of the cab. She has been hospitalised.

According to the report, a case was registered at Mandvi police station and police were looking for the culprits who were yet to be unidentified.

In another incident reported from the state, an air-conditioner mechanic was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl inside the lift of a residential building in Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at Taloja, the police told PTI.

"The accused, 19, spotted the five-year-old girl playing in the parking area of the building when he was climbing down the stairs after some AC repair work there. He took the girl inside the lift and sexually assaulted her there before leaving the place," senior inspector Jitendra Sonawane of Taloja police station was quoted by PTI.

According to the new agency, the victim rushed home on the third floor immediately after the incident and started vomiting. When her mother asked if everything was okay, she rushed downstairs and found the accused. He was held back by the security guard and other residents.

The residents then handed him over to the police, who arrested him and registered a case against him under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376 (rape) and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he added.

On Friday, a local court remanded him into judicial custody, Sonawane said, adding that an investigation into the case was on.
