Bengal Couple Sells 8-Month-Old Son To Buy iPhone 14 To Make Instagram Reels: Report

Social media has become an inseparable part of everyone’s daily life but this couple in West Bengal took it to even greater lengths after they sold their eight-month-old baby to buy an iPhone 14, for making reels. The shocking incident took place in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district where a couple traded their infant for an iPhone 14, all to create reels on Instagram while travelling across Bengal. A case has been filed by the police against the couple and a woman who bought the child, as per a Times of India report.
The woman identified as ‘Sathi’ was nabbed by the police while father of the child, Jaydev Ghosh is still at large and a probe is underway by the authorities who are actively searching for him.
The heart-wrenching incident came to light after neighbours cast suspicion on the couple’s behaviour which they noticed underwent some peculiar changes. While the eight-month-old baby was missing, yet the parents displayed no signs of uneasiness or worry and anxiety.

What mounted the suspicion was sudden acquisition of an iPhone 14 by the Ghosh family, which costs no less than a lakh, given the family was known to have financial difficulties in the past, as per the report.
As the neighbours confronted the couple, the mother eventually admitted under pressure that she and her husband indeed traded their infant to collect money to buy the iPhone that they would use it to create reels showcasing their travel across various parts of the state.

The couple and the mother who bought the baby are now facing criminal charges for human trafficking.
The investigation is still underway and further details will be shared once the police delve deeper into the case, the report stated.
