Uttarakhand Police Launches Hunt For 400 People Who Caused Traffic Jam In Dehradun
The Uttarakhand Police filed an FIR against 400 people who caused a traffic jam at Dehradun's Clock Tower during a protest over the detention of Bajrang Dal leader Vikas Verma in a communal clash.
Uttarakhand News: The Uttarakhand Police has registered a case against 400 people for causing a traffic jam at the Clock Tower in Dehradun. The jam was caused by a protest against the detention of Bajrang Dal leader Vikas Verma. Following the incident, police are now using video footage to identify the culprits.
The incident took place last week when a teenage girl, who was reported missing from Budaun, was seen outside the Dehradun Railway station with a man from a different community. A clash broke out between people of the two communities over the duo's 'friendship'. The situation escalated and the police intervened. But both sides attacked the police and hurled stones at them. The police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control late at night.

The police registered a case against nearly 100 people from both sides after the fight, with 15 people being named in the FIR. Subsequently, police detained several people from both sides for questioning. Among the detained was Bajrang Dal leader Vikas Verma.
When local traders learned of Vikas Verma's detention, they closed their shops in protest. Subsequently, traders and Verma's supporters reached the Clock Tower in Dehradun and staged a protest, resulting in traffic chaos. Despite the police's efforts, the protesters refused to budge. As a result of this, movement in the city's prime area remained crippled for nearly four hours.

Subsequently, police registered a case against 400 of the protesters. Police are now identifying those who caused the jam based on video footage so that action can be taken against them.
The incident caused considerable chaos in the Clock Tower area of Dehradun, causing a lot of inconvenience to the general public. Traffic was disrupted in the surrounding areas during the four-hour jam and markets remained closed. According to police, necessary legal action will be taken against the culprits once they are identified.
