UP Cop Caught Red-Handed Accepting Rs 50,000 Bribe In Bareilly
The complainant informed that Inspector Deep Chand, in charge of the Bhudia Colony Police Outpost, demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to prevent his arrest and resolve his brother and uncle's filed case.
In-charge of a police outpost in the Bareilly District of Uttar Pradesh was arrested red-handed while reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 by a team of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday, according to an official.
According to a report by the news agency PTI, Zeeshan Malik, the complainant informed the police that Inspector Deep Chand, in charge of the Bhudia Colony Police Outpost, demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 to prevent his arrest and resolve a case filed against his brothers and an uncle.
Malik also alleged that Chand threatened to send his entire family to jail if the bribe was not paid. After Malik's complaint, a case was registered against Chand at Devarnia Police Station, according to Jitendra Singh, the Inspector in charge of the Anti-Corruption Organisation team.
During a preliminary investigation, the team arranged for Malik to hand over the money, leading to Chand being caught red-handed. The inspector was subsequently arrested, and further investigation into the matter is ongoing, Singh added.
Judge In Maharashtra Arrested For Demanding Rs 5 Lakh Bribe
In a similar incident, District and Sessions Judge in Maharashtra's Satara Dhananjay Nikam and three others were arrested in the Rs 5 lakh bribery case. The action was taken by the Satara Anti-Corruption Department. The judge had demanded the bribe to grant bail to the complainant's father.
The police caught the judge red-handed by laying a trap in a hotel in Satara. After that, a case has been registered and further proceedings are underway. Notably, this incident has taken place in the court premises.
Similarly, a BMC assistant engineer was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor, an official said on Monday.
Ranjan Bagwe was held on Friday for allegedly seeking a bribe from a contractor who sought approval for public toilets as part of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's 'pay-and-use' scheme under the civic body's solid waste management department, the official said.
"The contractor had applied for approvals for toilet construction at Babasaheb Ambedkar Road and near Reay Road railway station. He was held while taking Rs 3 lakh from the contractor during an ACB trap," the official said.
