Aligarh Muslim University Receives Bomb Threat, Probe Launched

Aligarh Muslim University received a bomb threat demanding a ransom of Rs 2 lakh prompting action by authorities.

Aligarh Muslim University received a bomb threat on Thursday prompting swift action from university authorities and law enforcement agencies. 

The threat, which was received via email demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh, leading a thorough search operation across the campus, reported ANI. 

Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey confirmed that the university administration alerted the police about the threat. Bomb disposal unit, dog squad, and cyber teams were deployed to probe the origin of the email, Pandey said.

"We were informed by the university officials about the bomb threat mail. The bomb disposal unit and dog squad were immediately deployed, and all isolated spots on the campus were thoroughly searched by the police. The cyber teams are also investigating the origin of the email," he said.

No suspicious objects have been found so far in the search operation which focused on sweeping key areas of the campus, ANI reported. 

AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali assured that the authorities are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff. 

"We have informed the police about the bomb threat mail, and the investigation is ongoing. At this moment, we do not know the identity of the sender. The email also contains a demand for a ransom of ₹2 lakh," he stated.

The development comes a day after two educational institutes in the national capital received a similar threat via emails on Wednesday, according to Delhi Fire Services, reported PTI.  

The first call was made from Lady Shree Ram College while another was received from Tagore International School, East of Kailash, an official said. 

"We received two different bomb threat calls from Lady Shree Ram College (sic) at 11.40 am. Another bomb threat call was received from Tagore International School in the East of Kailash area at 11.17 am," the official told PTI.
