Telangana: 7 Maoists Killed During Encounter In Mulugu District
In Telangana's Mulugu district, seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in the Eturnagaram forest.
At least seven Maoists were killed during an exchange of fire with police on Sunday in Telangana's Mulugu district, said the police.
The encounter took place in the Eturnagaram forest area, said Mulugu Superintendent of Police Shabarish, reported ANI.
"Seven Maoists died in a police encounter at Eturnagaram forest area," SP Shabarish said.
A search operation is underway in the area, the official said. More details are awaited.
On Saturday, a senior official of the Border Security Force said the Maoist activities have come down substantially in Odisha over the last few years with only 60-70 members of the proscribed organisation being active in the state.
Addressing a press conference, BSF IG (Frontier HQ - Special Ops) CD Aggarwal said most of the active Maoists in the state belong to neighbouring Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
"Only seven of them are from Odisha and they are not in any leadership roles," he said
As per the Union Home Ministry, only seven districts — Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Rayagada — have been categorised as Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected.
Maoist activities are mostly confined to the Kalahandi-Kandhamal-Boudh-Nayagarh (KKBN) region, he said.
