7 Dead, 2 Injured As Vehicle Carrying 14 Falls Into Bhakra Canal In Haryana
A tragic accident in Haryana claimed seven lives, injured two, and left several missing after a vehicle carrying 14 plunged into the Bhakra Canal due to dense fog.

In a tragic accident, seven people died, two were injured, and several remain missing after a vehicle carrying 14 people plunged into Bhakra Canal in Haryana's Fatehabad district late on Friday night, officials said.
As per the details, the accident took place near Sardarewala village in Ratia when dense fog engulfed the area, police said. "Due to poor visibility caused by dense fog, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Sardarewala village and it fell into the Bhakra Canal", they said.
According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jagdish Chandra, "This incident took place on Friday night, there were 14 people, they were travelling in a vehicle, they were returning after attending a wedding ceremony in Punjab...the vehicle fell into the canal, local people came to know about it and informed the administration. We rescued 3 people at night, one of them succumbed at night itself and the rest of the two are alive...we have recovered 5 more bodies...our team is still on it and the operation is still underway...few more people are still missing. The bodies have been identified, among the dead are a 1.5-month-old infant and a 10-year-old girl..."

The SDM added that a team of NDRF and SDRF is engaged to search for the remaining people. "A team of four divers has been called from Sirsa. Divers have also been called from Narwana," he said.
He further said, "The water level was decreased in the canal after communication with the irrigation department. We are working towards providing a permanent barricading around the canal. For now, we will set up a temporary safety barricade."
The search operation for the missing people are underway.
