Body Of Haryana Congress Worker Found Stuffed In Suitcase On Civic Poll Eve, Hooda Calls For High-Level Probe

Police have opened an investigation, and a probe has been sought by former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

A body of a woman Congress worker was found stuffed in a suitcase in Haryana's Rohtak district on Saturday. The stuffed suitcase was found near Sampla bus stand and the woman was identified as a 22-year-old resident of Vijay Nagar in Rohtak, according to the police. 

The suitcase was spotted by a passerby who then informed the police, reported PTI. An investigation into the matter is underway and a case has been registered, Sampla Police Station Inspector Bijender Singh said. 

The incident comes on the eve of civic polls in Haryana. The elections will be held across the municipal corporations in Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, and Hisar. Bypolls for mayoral posts will also be held in Ambala City and Sonipat.

Hooda Calls For High-Level Probe

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda called the incident "barbaric" and called for a high-level probe. 

 "The news of the barbaric murder of active Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the family members," he said in a social media post. 

"The murder of a girl in this manner and finding her body in a suitcase is extremely sad and shocking. This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state," Hooda said. 

"There should be a high-level impartial investigation of this murder, and the government should provide justice to the victim's family as soon as possible and provide the harshest punishment to the culprits...," he added. 

Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra also called for strict action against the accused. 

"I have been informed that a body was found...the body is of our worker Himani Narwal...This is extremely sad and shocking...An STI should be formed in this matter, and strict action should be taken against the accused," said the Congress legislator.
