'BJP Toolkit' Allegation In Kolkata Doctor Death Case: TMC Says CBI Trying To 'Derail RG Kar Probe'

The TMC has accused the CBI of attempting to bury the RG Kar Hospital doctor's death investigation and alleges a BJP 'toolkit' conspiracy behind the attempt.

The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday alleged a 'BJP toolkit' behind an attempt by the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] to "derail the investigation in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctor's death case". The TMC's Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale alleged that the CBI, which took over the investigation after a Calcutta High Court Order, is trying to "bury the case and deny justice to the victim just to help BJP's political agenda".

The TMC said that "complete silence on the case for six days" showed that a "dirty game" seemed to be unfolding around the case. Saket Gokhale said that a rumour was doing the rounds, accusing the Kolkata Police of cremating the RG Kar rape-murder victim's body without the parents' consent. "This was demolished when the parents themselves said that they cremated the body. Strangely, since yesterday, it [the same rumour] was planted again for a sinister reason," Gokhale said.

He accused, Rajya Sabha MP & floor leader of the CPI-(M) Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, who is also the lawyer of the victim's family, of spreading rumours. "It [the rumour] started yesterday at 11 AM with a sudden news across media that 'victim's body was cremated hurriedly'... It was Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya... Out of the blue, he made this sensational claim which had been debunked," Saket Gokhale posted on X.

Saket Gokhale said that Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya's claim of 150 g semen was also found to be fake.

Claiming that the CBI had "concluded from evidence that the arrested man [Sanjay Roy] is the perpetrator", the TMC leader said that the CBI did not even request permission to conduct a narco test of the accused. "As CBI has no progress to show for 6 days, it's simply going to bury the case by claiming, 'Victim cremated hurriedly & we couldn't examine the body'. This is false because the parents cremated the body AFTER autopsy & forensic evidence was given to judicial magistrate [sic]," Saket Gokhale wrote on the X thread.

'Just Like In Sushant Singh Rajput's Case...'

The TMC leader said that the CBI is treating the RG Kar rape-murder case just as it conducted the investigation in the Sushant Singh Raput death case. "This is not new. CBI has an established track record of failing to investigate and file charges in time When the CBI couldn't find evidence in the Sushant Singh Rajput case, they floated bizarre conspiracy theories. And since yesterday, they've been doing the same in the RG Kar case," he said.

"We are NOT bothered by BJP's "toolkit". What makes us ANGRY is CBI trying to bury the case & deny justice to the victim just to help BJP's political agenda. We will NOT allow justice & the truth to be buried," the TMC leader said.

BJP-CPI(M) Collaborating In Bengal Over RG Kar Case

Earlier, the TMC said that the BJP and the Left were working together in Bengal over the RG Kar MCH case. Saket Gokhale cited an X post shared by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar and took a dig at the former minister, asking him how was the collaboration going on in Bengal."

In the post, Rajeev Chandrasekhar shared Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya's interview and said that the Bengal government had a "rate card" for rape victims. He was commenting on the compensation awarded to the victim's family by the state.
