Republic Day 2025: 15K Cops, 70 Para Units, AI Cameras, 6-Layer Security To Fortify Delhi For Jan 26 Celebration

The Delhi Police said it is well prepared to handle any kind of situation and has made robust security arrangements for smooth Republic Day celebrations in the city on January 26.

The Delhi Police has laid out a multi-layered security arrangement in the national capital, deploying more than 70 companies of paramilitary forces, over 15,000 police personnel, thousands of CCTVs, and AI-enabled cameras in New Delhi district for the Republic Day celebrations at the Kartavya Path on January 26.

The city will be monitored by drones, CCTVs, Facial Recognition Systems-installed cars and Artificial Intelligence-enabled cameras with database to identify criminals, as part of the multi-layered security arrangement. The Delhi Police said it is well prepared to handle any kind of situation and has made robust security arrangements for smooth Republic Day celebrations.

New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla said: "There are a lot of areas for the VIP and the foreign guests... Overall around 1 lakh people will come... We welcome all and request them with the security arrangements and the police...There will be a six layer security check to ensure safety...Become the eyes and ears of the police. If you see anything suspicious, they should inform the police. We assure you that wherever one is standing, one will find police personnel within 20-30 meters."

He further said that passes with QR codes have been issued as part of a security protocol to ensure no one misuses the pass. "No one can fake the QR codes as we have all the data in our database. If anybody tries to copy it, he will be caught," he said.

Republic Day parade attendees will be given security stickers, and around 500 high-resolution AI-enabled cameras with FRS are being installed along the route as well.

A senior police official told PTI that cyber-specialist officers will be deployed to oversee operations in the city. He further said that police teams are conducting mock drills with multiple security agencies. The DCPs of all districts have been briefed about the security arrangements. 

"We have made a multi-layer security arrangement for January 26. We have arranged a 6-layer checking and frisking for vehicles. There is multilayer barricading. Video cameras, video analytics, and FRS (facial recognition system) have been enabled... Several thousands of CCTV cameras laced with latest features are installed in the district...Moving vehicles with video analytics feature have been deployed...They have FRS and database of wanted criminals," he said.

"Around 15,000 police personnel have been deployed by the New Delhi district police. There have been 8-9 briefings and rehearsals... The arrangements for January 26 and the Delhi elections are almost the same... We are well prepared and we can deal with any kind of contingency," DCP Malha added.

The DCPs of other districts including Central Delhi, North Delhi, and New Delhi have conducted a detailed survey of the route, performed anti-sabotage checks, and increased vigilance in areas where high footfall is expected, PTI reported.
