Pune Man Tears Passport Pages To Hide Bangkok Trips From Family, Booked

The immigration officer, Rajiv Ranjan Kumar, who filed the complaint, noticed the irregularity after the passenger reached the immigration counter.

A 51-year-old man from Pune was booked by the Mumbai Police for defrauding immigration authorities at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday. The action was taken after the elderly man reportedly tore the pages from his passport in response to hide his Bangkok's trips from his family.

The immigration officer, Rajiv Ranjan Kumar, who filed the complaint, noticed the irregularity after the passenger reached the immigration counter. After the passenger presented his boarding pass and passport, it was discovered that he had arrived from Indonesia via Vietnam, according to the Indian Express.

During a detailed check, the officer noticed that multiple pages had been removed from the passenger's passport. The individual was then taken aside for further questioning. According to the FIR, the passenger reportedly confessed that he had torn out the pages nearly a year earlier to conceal past visits to Bangkok from his family.

Labeling the act as unlawful interference with official travel documents, immigration officials lodged a complaint at the Sahar Police Station. The man has been charged under Section 12 of the Passports Act and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
