In Patna, Bihar, a cricket tournament prize distribution turned violent when four assailants shot three people, including an ex-mukhiya.

A cricket tournament in Bihar's capital Patna turned tragic after four bike-borne assailants opened fire at three people including an ex-mukhiya.

The incident took place in city's Paliganj area on Wednesday night where a cricket tournament was organised in Mahto Tola village under Rani Talab police station area.

Among those injured in the incident were ex-mukhiya Anjani Singh, Raja, and Dharmendra. An old enmity is believed to be the reason behind the firing with Anjani Singh, who was the chief guest at the event, being the main target. He suffered four gunshot wounds on his leg while the other two victims sustained a gunshot injury each.

Anjani has been targeted by criminals earlier also, said his brother. According to an ABP News report, an application requesting increased security for Anjani was requested but police took no action.

Paliganj Deputy Commissioner of Police -2, Umeshwar Singh said that around 12:30 pm on Wednesday a firing incident took place during the prize distribution ceremony in Mahto Tola village.

According to eyewitnesses, four attackers came on two bikes, said the police official. Six shells, one magazine and one bike of the criminal were recovered from the spot, he added.

Forensic teams reached the spot and an investigation is underway.

We are working to identify the criminals. Arrests will be made soon. The reason behind the incident has not been revealed yet, he added.
