Patiala News: Sikh activist Bakshish Singh escaped an alleged assassination attempt in Punjab after assailants fired at his car.
Sikh activist Bakshish Singh narrowly escaped unhurt after unidentified assailants opened fire at his car in Punjab’s Patiala district, police said on Sunday. According to ABP Sanjha, unidentified assailants fired at Bakshish Singh near Patiala's new bus stand when he was returning from his village, Najamwala.
The incident occurred around 1:30 am on the Patiala South Bypass road near Urban Estate. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway and an FIR has been lodged at the Urban Estate police station.
According to police sources cited by news agency PTI, Baba Bakshish Singh, known for raising various issues, including the release of Bandi Singhs (Sikh prisoners), was returning to his residence in SST Nagar from Gurdwara Karhali Sahib, near Samana, when his car was attacked.
PTI sources stated that two or three rounds were fired at Bakshish Singh's vehicle, but he managed to escape unscathed. Initial reports suggested that the assailants arrived in vehicles, including a Scorpio, a Brezza, and a Verna.
Bandi Singhs refers to Sikh prisoners who, according to political parties like the Shiromani Akali Dal, remain in jail despite having completed their sentences.
