Noida: Rs 1,500 Challan If You Change Lanes In These Stretches Near DLF Mall, Amity University

Only these Noida stretches have been chosen because they see high traffic volume throughout the day and are especially prone to snarls during peak hours.

Noida Traffic Update: The Noida Traffic Police will soon enforce lane driving at three major stretches to solve the issue of frequent traffic jams. These stretches are Charkha roundabout near Amity University, Gardens Galleria Mall to Film City, and bird feeding point near Dalit Prerna Sthal. Those violating the rule will face a challan of Rs 1,500.

Only these stretches have been chosen because they see high traffic volume throughout the day and are especially prone to snarls during peak hours. Lane-changing zones will be developed, and cameras will be installed to monitor violations, DCP (traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav was quoted as saying by Times of India.

The Move To Reduce Red-end Collisions

The initiative aims to reduce sideswipe and rear-end collisions as abrupt lane changes trigger a chain reaction, the police said.

"Noida Authority will develop lane-changing zones nearly 500 metres ahead of these points where commuters can change lanes. Cameras will also be installed to monitor violations and issue challans," the officer said. ITMS cameras installed on the expressway currently do not read such violations.

The Charkha roundabout on the Noida Expressway witnesses traffic from residential sectors 125, 126, and 128 and those heading towards Kalindi Kunj, Sarita Vihar, and Jamia Nagar from Amity University. The bird feeding point near Dalit Prerna Sthal witnesses traffic heading towards the Chilla Border, Film City flyover, and popular destinations like Sector 18 and DLF Mall from the expressway.

The stretch from Gardens Galleria to Film City route is mainly taken by people travelling from Botanical Garden, GIP Mall, and Sector 18 towards the Noida Expressway, Greater Noida, Chilla Border, and DND Flyway.

While the date for enforcing lane discipline is yet to be announced, officials said similar measures will be implemented on other internal roads if the drive is successful. "On expressways, which have two-three lanes on each arm, the right lane is used for overtaking, the middle one is for cars and the left is for heavy vehicles," S Velmurugan, chief scientist at Central Road Research Institute, said.

Noida Police's Special Focus On Wrong-lane Driving

The Noida traffic police has also launched a month-long a drive to curb wrong-lane driving on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.

"It came to light that auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and tempos ply on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. But these slow-moving vehicles are not allowed on the Noida expressway. Multiple teams of traffic police personnel have been deployed on the expressway at different points to curb the entry of these slow-moving vehicles," the DCP said.

In June 2023, the Noida Traffic Police issued an order banning the movement of autos, tempos, tractor trolleys, bullock carts, e-rickshaws, and other slow-moving vehicles on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway between Sector 14-A and Pari Chowk.
