What Happened In Nagpur?

Violence erupted in Nagpur on March 17, following protests demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb. The unrest began after right-wing groups allegedly burned effigies of the Mughal emperor, leading to rumours of the Quran's desecration.

This incited clashes between communities, resulting in large-scale arson, stone-pelting, and attacks on police personnel. Over 30 officers were injured, and major damage to vehicles and property was reported.

In response to the violence, authorities imposed a curfew in several areas and deployed over 1,000 police officers to restore order. Fahim Shamim Khan, a local leader of the Minorities Democratic Party, was arrested as the alleged mastermind behind the riots.
