Mumbai Businessman Dies By Suicide After Jumping Off Atal Setu, Second-Such Incident In 3 Days
Police said that the deceased, identified as Philip Shah, was a resident of Matunga in central Mumbai and drove his car onto the bridge, parked it, and then jumped into the sea.
A 52-year-old businessman allegedly died by suicide after jumping off the Atal Setu sea bridge in second-such incident in three days.
Police said that the deceased, identified as Philip Shah, was a resident of Matunga in central Mumbai and drove his car onto the bridge, parked it, and then jumped into the sea.
"Staff from the CCTV control room of the bridge noticed that a car was parked on the bridge, following which a rescue team was alerted. Its personnel rushed to the spot from where Shah jumped into the sea. Following a search operation, they found him," he also said, news agency PTI reported.

After the search operation, Shah was found and rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. His identity was confirmed through his Aadhaar card found in the vehicle.

Man Jumps Off Mumbai's Atal Setu Bridge
The first suicide took place on Monday when a man died by suicide after jumping off the bridge. According to a report by NDTV, at around 10 am that day, a man halted his red Maruti Brezza car and jumped off the bridge, as per the police who reviewed CCTV footage. Authorities are still working to figure out the identity of the man.
The Atal Setu, the longest sea bridge in India spanning over 8 kilometres, links Mumbai with Navi Mumbai and was inaugurated in January 2024. There have been several incidents on the bridge involving individuals attempting to die by suicide by jumping off it.
