Mob Storms Into Police Station In Bengal Demanding 'Handover' Of Stabbing Suspect, 10 Arrested
In Bangaon, West Bengal, a mob of 150 stormed a police station demanding custody of a man who allegedly stabbed four people. Police arrested ten individuals after using lathicharge to disperse the crowd.

In West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas, ten persons were arrested after a mob of around 150 people allegedly barged into a police station in the Bangaon area. According to Indian Express, the mob demanded that a man who earlier allegedly stabbed and injured four persons be handed over to them. The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the crowd, leading to the arrests.
According to the report, the incident took place after a mentally unstable 35-year-old man went on a stabbing spree, reports Indian Express, quoting an officer. Police apprehended him soon and brought him to the station.
According to the Indian Express sources, the stabbing suspect may also be involved in the murder of his parents. According to an officer, a seven-member police team has been formed to verify this claim and carry out further probe.
“The mob demanded that the accused be handed over to them. Police dispersed the crowd and arrested 10 persons,” said Bangaon Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar as quoted by Indian Express.
A search operation to nab others involved in the attempt vandalism is underway, said police.
In a post on X, the Bangaon police wrote, “There is no communal angle to the incident. Request all not to heed any kind of rumours. Rumour-mongers, as always, will be sternly dealt with as per law.”
