Missing Man Found Buried Under Tiles In 'Drishyam'-Like Murder Near Mumbai; Wife And Her Lover On The Run

A woman and her lover are suspected of murdering her husband and burying him under newly installed tiles in their home near Mumbai, reminiscent of the film 'Drishyam'.

A chilling murder case is under investigation in Maharashtra's Palghar district, where a woman allegedly killed her husband with the help of her lover, in a plot similar to that of Bollywood film 'Drishyam'. The body of the man was found buried inside his own home, while his wife remains on the run.

The victim, Vijay Chouhan (34), was a resident of a housing society in the Gangnipada area of Nallasopara, a distant suburb of Mumbai. Vijay lived with his 28-year-old wife Chaman Devi and their child. He had been missing since Sunday night.

According to Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Vankoti, Vijay's brother, who lives in Bilalpada, called him up asking for money. However, his phone was unreachable and he was nowhere to be found. "Their sister-in-law said he was working on the Kurla building. Later, her phone also went off. She had also disappeared," he told news agency ANI.

Upon not finding him at home, he lodged a missing person complaint with the police on Sunday night. The next morning Vijay's brothers visited his house while looking for him and noticed new tiles installed at the house. They grew suspicious as the tiles tiles did not match the colour of the rest. When they removed the new tiles they noticed a strange smell and immediately informed the police. Their worst fear came true as cops found their brother's body buried under the tiles.

Forensic experts and local tehsildars were called in and the dead body was removed and sent to the hospital for further action. They later exhumed Chouhan's body, PTI reported.

The deceased's friend Safruddin Ansari said that Vijay's brothers had been coming to his shop for the past two days looking for their missing brother. "He has been in contact with me for the last 10-15 years and was a very nice individual... His brothers are saying Vijay's wife might have eloped with a neighbour," he said.

Police suspect that Vijay was murdered by his wife and their neighbour, Monu. The two are allegedly in a romantic relationship and now prime suspects in the case. It is also being suspected that another person from the same locality was involved in the crime, PTI reported.

The woman has been missing since two days. It was not immediately clear to how the duo killed the victim and why.
