Himachal: 5 Dead As Car Falls Into Gorge In Mandi’s Chauharghati

Five people died in Himachal Pradesh when their car plunged into a river; they were returning from a wedding.

Five people lost their lives after the car in which they were travelling fell into george in Chauharghati's Vardhan, Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

The incident took place on Saturday night while they were returning from a wedding ceremony. Among the deceased, one was 16 years old, and the other four were aged between 25 and 30. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, according to SP Mandi, Sakshi Verma.

According to a report by Aaj Taj, the information came to light on Sunday morning when a shepherd spotted a car that had plunged into a field about 700 meters below the road. He alerted the nearby villagers, following which Panchayat representatives arrived at the scene and reported the incident to the Tikkan police station.

7 Family Members Die As Car Plunges Into Canal In Haryana

Seven family members, including three women and four girls, died after their car fell into a canal near Mundri village in Haryana's Kaithal on Saturday (October 12), police said. They were on their way to the Baba Rajpuri Mela, held to mark the Dussehra festival.

The police disclosed that the vehicle, carrying nine people—eight from the same family—lost control, resulting in the mishap, news agency PTI reported. However, the driver survived the mishap, but seven were drowned. A 12-year-old girl, Komal, remains missing, with search efforts ongoing to locate her.

The identified deceased were Satwinder (50), Chameli (65), Teejo (45), Fiza (16), Vandana (10), Riya (10), and Ramandeep (6), all hailing from Deeg village in Kaithal. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Lalit Kumar, told news agency ANI, "We received the information that a family going to a fair, their car fell into a canal near Mundri in which 7 family members died, only the driver is alive. We have this information that one girl is missing. We are not confirm about it and a rescue operation is going on. Out of 7 deceased - 4 are girl children and 3 are adult women... The reason behind this incident is being investigated."

The Prime Minister announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those who were injured.
