Nagpur mass suicide: The bodies of four members of a retired schoolteacher's family were found hanging at their home in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Wednesday. An initial probe by the police pointed to suicide. A suicide note, signed by all four members of the family, was found in the house.
The deceased were identified as retired teacher Vijay Pachori (62), his wife Malabai (54), and his sons Deepak (35) and Ganesh (40). Deepak and Ganesh were unmarried. The family lived in a rented accommodation in Ward No. 5 of Mowad.
The incident was reported from Mowad village of Narkhed tehsil of Nagpur district. The reason for the suspected suicide is not clear yet. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
The Nagpur police are awaiting the autopsy report and are questioning the locals to get details of the suspected mass suicide.
According to ABP sources, one of the sons had a cooperative society fraud case registered against him in Pandhurna, in Madhya Pradesh. He was arrested in the case and came out on bail just a month ago. Sources said that the suicide note mentioned this as a reason for the suicide.
However, the police are not convinced and are investigating why the entire family committed suicide because of the case against one member. The police are also probing whether they were pressured by anyone into taking the extreme step
In a similar incident, the decomposing corpses of five members of a family were found in their home in Delhi on September 27. A man and his four daughters were found dead in their home with pesticides strewn beside their bodies.
The man was depressed after his wife's death a year ago. Moreover, one of the girls was visually impaired, and another had difficulty walking, adding to the family's challenges. Police suspect the man administered poison to the girls and then killed himself.
