A 30-year-old man in Thane district of Maharashtra was arrested for allegedly killing a friend for 'raping' his wife. The incident took place in Badlapur where the man had invited the victim for a party at his home.
The accused, Suraj (name changed), a resident of Shirgaon, was a friend of the victim Nagesh (name changed) and lived in the same locality.
The police found out during the investigation that Nagesh had raped the Suresh's wife and threatened her not to tell her husband. The police worked on several leads and detained Suraj based on suspicion. The accused worked as a helper in a private company.
Upon interrogation, the accused told the police that the deceased used to come to his house frequently and harass his wife which would lead to quarrels between the two men as well as the couple. Fed up with Nagesh's behaviour, the accused hatched a plan to kill him.
On January 10, the accused called Nagesh to his house, served him liquor and then allegedly hit on his head with a hammer and an iron rod following which the man died, the police said.
However, the next morning, the accused informed the police that Nagesh had died after falling the bathroom. The post-mortem report revealed that had been bludgeoned to death. Following the report, the police interrogated Narendra who later confessed to the crime.
The accused has been arrested and booked under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the police said. The two friends, both from Badlapur in Thane, had known each other for many years.
