UP CM Adityanath Rejects Ganga Faecal Bacteria Report: 'Sangam Water Fit For Taking Dip'
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath denied reports of Ganga river contamination during the Maha Kumbh Mela, stating that the UP Pollution Control Board is closely monitoring water quality.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rejected the reports of contamination of the river Ganga during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday.
He said that the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board is continuously monitoring the water to maintain its quality.
"Questions are being raised about the quality of the water (at Triveni)... All the pipes and the drains in and around Sangam have been taped and the water is being released only after purification... The UP Pollution Control Board is continuously monitoring the water to maintain its quality," said the UP CM in the state assembly on Wednesday.

Adityanath gave the statement amid a row over a report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) that found alarming levels of 'faecal coliform' bacteria in the river Ganga in Prayagraj.
Speaking in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the Chief Minister cited the state pollution control board's Wednesday report saying the amount of Biochemical Oxygen Demand is less than 3 while the Dissolved Oxygen is around 8-9.
"This means that the Sangam is water is suitable not just for bathing but also for 'Aachman'," he said.
Addressing the issue of increased faecal coliform bacteria in the river water, Adityanath said there can be several reasons for it such as sewage leakage and animal waste.
"The amount of faecal coliform in Prayagraj is, as per the standards, less than 2,500 MPN per 100 ml...This means that the false campaign is only to defame the Maha Kumbh... The NGT has also said that the faecal waste was less than 2000 MPN per 100 ml...," he added.
