Ludhiana IAS Officer's Gunman Opens Fire During Argument With Labourers, 1 Injured
Stephen, Kaler's husband, claims the workers initiated the scuffle. Workers allege the firing was instructed by the IAS officer.

A gunman of an IAS officer in Punjab's Ludhiana opened fire during an argument with construction workers, near PIMS Hospital, injuring one of them in the leg.
According to Stephen, husband of IAS officer Babita Kaler, some construction work was underway on an empty plot near their house. Stephen said he asked the labourers to get him in touch with the land owner but the workers started an argument.
He then left the plot but the workers started to scuffle with the gunman. The workers, who allegedly had weapons started attacking the gunman after which he used his service revolver resulting in injury to one person, Stephen said.
The injured person was identified as Harpreet Singh who was hospitalised and currently receiving medical treatment.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Model Town along with Deputy Commissioner of Police 2 Harinder Singh Gill reached the spot after being reported about the incident.
Gill confirmed that the incident involved Babita Kaler’s gunman and individuals working at the site. “A confrontation broke out during which the gunman discharged his weapon. We have taken the gunman, a government employee named Sukh Karan Singh, into custody. Statements from both sides are being recorded, and appropriate legal action will follow,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the workers have alleged that the shots were fired on the instruction of Kaler.
Lakhbir Singh, representing the other side of the dispute, claimed he had arrived at the site with a tractor trolley to fill the soil. According to him, the firing occurred when he returned with a second trolley. He accused the gunman of opening fire at the behest of Babita Kaler.
