Lucknow Heist: Robbers Dig Bank's Wall To Reach Lockers, Loot Articles Worth Crores
Robbers dug through a bank wall in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and looted crores of rupees from lockers.
A real-life 'Money Heist' unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow where robbers drugged through the wall of a bank to reach the lockers and looted articles worth crores of Rupees.
The robbers made their way into a branch of Indian Overseas Bank in the Chinhat area by digging up a wall of the bank from an adjacent vacant plot, cutting the locker room of the bank with a gladder cutter, breaking 30 lockers and running away with jewellery and valuable papers.
The incident which took place on the Lucknow-Ayodhya Highway was captured on a CCTV where the thieves were visible. On receiving information about high-profile theft, a team of police officers, forensics and a dog squad reached the spot and started investigating the case.
The manager of the bank, located in Matiyari, Chinhat, had informed the police about the incident, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashan Singh.
"Some people had broken into the bank by cutting the wall from the plot adjacent to the bank. Upon receiving the information, police officers and forensic along with dog squad teams reached the spot," he added.
About four people entered the bank by cutting the wall, the DCP said further. "There were lockers in the bank. Some of them opened the locker and ran away with the things kept in it," Singh said.
The bank's alarm system was faulty and the guard was also not present taking advantage of which the miscreants carried out this incident. Six teams have been deployed for the investigation, which also includes the crime team, the DCP said.
The incident comes almost exactly two years after a major theft took place in Kanpur where burglars reached the strong room of State Bank of India’s Bhauti branch through an underground tunnel and took away 1.812 kg of gold kept in a locker.
The robbers dug an 8-metre long and four-foot-wide tunnel horizontally and another three-ft tunnel vertically to enter precisely the strong room.
