Another Love Triangle Turns Fatal: Tripura Man Killed, Body Hid In Parents' Ice Cream Freezer

The victim was in a relationship with a 20-year-old woman. However, her cousin, an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, harboured feelings for her.

A 26-year-old man was allegedly murdered and his body hidden in an ice-cream freezer in Tripura’s Gandacherra, police said on Wednesday. The crime is believed to be the outcome of a love triangle that turned deadly.

According to West Tripura SP Kiran Kumar, the victim was in a relationship with a 20-year-old woman. However, her cousin, an MBBS graduate from Bangladesh, harboured feelings for her and was allegedly frustrated after learning that the couple had recently argued and were not on speaking terms.

Taking advantage of the situation, the cousin hatched a plan to eliminate his romantic rival. On June 8, he lured the victim to a relative’s house in South Indiranagar, West Tripura. There, with the help of three accomplices, he strangled the man to death. The body was then stuffed into a trolley bag.

Body Stores In Ice-Cream Freezer

Shockingly, the following day, the cousin contacted his parents in Gandacherra and asked them to collect the bag. Unaware of its grisly contents, or complicit in the plan, they brought it back and hid the body in a freezer at their ice-cream shop.

Police say the motive was to clear the path for the cousin to exploit the woman, who had recently lost her father and was emotionally vulnerable. The accused was known to frequently visit her home in Bankumari under the East Agartala police station limits.

The crime came to light after the victim’s family filed a missing persons complaint. The cousin was arrested first and confessed to the murder during interrogation. Acting on his statement, police recovered the body and arrested a total of six people, including the cousin’s parents.

A post-mortem was conducted before handing the body over to the family.
