Earlier today, National Commission for Women's former chairperson Rekha Sharma claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was trying to protect someone to hide something.
She said that even though an accused was arrested, the case doesn't seem like it was the work of a single person. "There were some other people involved, whom Mamata Banerjee wanted to protect," she said.

Sharma slammed the ruling Trinamool Congress calling it a "party of goons" which did not care about women. "TMC is only concerned with staying in power," she said, recalling how the TMC leaders and workers were involved in the atrocities committed against women in Sandeshkhali.
"The truth will come out only after the investigation... but this seems like a premeditated conspiracy, which will be revealed in the investigation," she added.
NCW had conducted a preliminary inquiry into the case during which it discovered lapses in investigation and security, following the rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar hospital in Kolkata.
The commission also stated that the hospital's infrasturcture lacked in terms of security as there were no security guards were present during the incident, leaving on-call interns, doctors, and nurses without sufficient protection during night shifts. It also emphasised that the crime scene should have been sealed immediately after the incident.
Earlier today, the Bharatiya Janata Party alleged that the Bengal CM had transferred 42 senior doctors for raising their voice for justice. The reshuffle also ignited a strong response from the dcotors' associations who called the move an attempt to intimidate senior healthcare professionals.
Out of the 42 doctors transferred, two of them were previously posted at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the junior doctor was raped and murdered on August 9.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla claimed that the Kolkata police also warned legal action against protestors.
The Bengal government also introduced a comprehensive safety programme called 'Rattirer Shaathi' for women working night shifts. It aims to improve the working conditions and security provisions for women at night-time workplaces including hospitals, medical colleges, and hostels.
Former RG Kar MCH principal Sandeep Ghosh's interrogation continued on Saturday morning. He was take for questioning on Friday and the CBI continued to interrogate him till 1:40 AM on Saturday.
CBI grilled Ghosh, seeking asnwers for several questions including how he got to know about the inicdent, who informed him, what did he do after getting the news, and whether he knew accused Sanjay Roy, among other questions.
A CBI team also visited Roy's house situated in Sambhunath Pandit Street, Bhawanipur near SSKM hospital as part of the probe.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav commented on the ongoing uproar over the heinous incident, saying: "Mamata Banerjee herself is a woman and understands the pain of a woman. She has taken action as per demand. The government has also decided to get the matter investigated by CBI or any other institution."
He also asked the Bharatiya Janata Party to not do politics. "BJP should not take political advantage from the incidents," he said.
Protests and strikes continued today with Bengal Congress workers holding a rally in Kolkata over the incident. Besides this, protests were also held at Safdarjung Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi, AIIMS Mangalgiri in Andhra Pradesh, Rajkot Civil Hospital in Gujarat, and in Odisha's Bhubaneswar among others.
