A Karnataka man committed suicide and left behind a note accusing his wife of "torture" in Hubballi. The deceased was identified as Peter Gollapalli, who died by suicide on Sunday with his family members.
Peter accused that he and his wife were going through a marital dispute for the last three months. Peter wrote to his father in the note that he left behind: "Daddy, I'm sorry." Accusing his wife of torture, he wrote, "My wife Pinky is killing me, she wants my death. I am dying because of my wife's torture."
According to a report by India Today, Peter's brother Joyal, confirmed that they discovered his body at 12.30 pm on Sunday after returning from church. "He wrote a death note, in which he said that his wife Feebhe, whose nickname is Pinky, wanted him to die," Joyal said. "He also wrote, 'Daddy I'm sorry' and 'Anna (brother), please take care of parents'."
Peter's brother, Joyal, shared that the couple had been facing marital issues for three months since two years of their marriage and were separated. "The case is still ongoing in court," Joyal said. Joyal also mentioned that Peter was under severe stress due to a compensation demand of Rs 20 lakh in the divorce proceedings.
Police Examining Death Note
Peter’s father, Obayya, alleged that his son was mentally distressed because of his wife’s actions and her family’s demands. “My son passed away because of his wife’s torture. He also wrote a letter stating the same. Police have taken that letter. She would leave home randomly to stay at her mother’s place and would tell my son that even if he died, she wouldn’t return. Her brother demanded Rs 20 lakh as compensation in their divorce case,” he added.
Obayya further alleged that Peter lost his job after a confrontation with his wife during an office meeting, which led to his employer terminating him. The couple, married for two years, had reportedly been living apart for three months due to worsening conflicts.
A case has been filed under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which pertains to the abetment of suicide. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, with the Ashok Nagar Police examining the death note and other evidence to determine further action.
