Kannauj News: A teenage girl sustained serious injuries after her hair got entangled in the roller of a swing at a fair in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in her entire scalp being ripped off. The horrifying moment, caught on video, surfaced on social media on Monday, sparking widespread shock and concern.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening at a fair in Madhonagar village, within the Talgram police station area. The victim, identified as 13-year-old Anuradha Katheria, was left in critical condition, bleeding profusely from severe head wounds before fainting at the scene. Eyewitnesses and fairgoers rushed to halt the swing, but by the time it stopped, Anuradha’s entire scalp had been torn off, news agency IANS reported.

Her family initially transported her to a private hospital in Gursahaiganj. However, as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to PGI in Lucknow for advanced medical care.

The fair, organised annually under the auspices of Shri Shri 1008 Swami Nityananda Seva Samiti, features a range of activities, including puja ceremonies, processions, and multiple swing rides.

Experts Emphasise Safety Measures To Avert Disastrous Outcomes On Amusement Rides

According to IANS, Safety experts emphasise the importance of adhering to strict safety protocols on amusement rides. “Fair rides can offer an exhilarating experience, but prioritising safety is essential,” they caution. Experts advise riders to remain seated until a ride has come to a complete stop and to ensure that all safety restraints, including seat belts and harnesses, are properly secured before the ride begins. "These restraints are specifically designed to keep people secure," they add, underscoring that they are designed to protect people from falls during sudden movements, sharp turns, and high speeds.

Furthermore, experts urge visitors to avoid loosening safety restraints or standing while a ride is in motion. Additionally, securing loose items like hair, hats, sunglasses, dupattas, sarees, and jewellery is crucial, as these can get entangled or be lost due to sudden movements, also posing potentially disastrous outcomes.
