4 Injured In Explosion Inside Howrah Mail In Punjab's Fatehgarh
An explosion in a Howrah Mail coach injured four passengers due to firecrackers stored in a plastic bucket.
Four people were injured in an explosion in a general coach of the Howrah Mail near Sirhind Railway Station in Fatehgarh district of Punjab, said Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday.
The explosion took place at around 10:30 pm on Saturday night in a plastic bucket containing firecrackers. The train was headed to Howrah from Amritsar, the GRP said, according to a PTI report.
Four passengers were injured in the incident including a woman and all the wounded people were taken to Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital, said GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Singh.
According to preliminary investigation, the explosion took place in a plastic bucket which contained some firecrackers, in the general compartment of the train, he said.
Samples will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, Singh said, adding that further investigation into the incident is underway.
In a separate incident related to firecrackers, three children were burnt to death and two others were critically injured in a blaze sparked by firecrackers they were bursting in West Bengal's Howrah district during Diwali celebrations on Friday evening, reported PTI.
The incident took place when children of the same locality were bursting firecrackers as sparks fell on some fireworks stored nearby, triggering a blaze that engulfed an adjacent house.
Three children were gutted in the blaze and were declared dead at the Uluberia Medical College and Hospital, while two children were in critical condition and were undergoing treatment.
In Mumbai, over 30 animals distressed due to heat and Diwali firecrackers were rescued in the last 48 hours across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, an official said on Saturday.
The Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) helpline received 60 calls about such animals, said the wildlife rescue organisation's founder-president Pawan Sharma, reported PTI.
Squirrels, monkeys, owls, parakeets, egrets snakes and turtles were among the 33 animals rescued, Sharma said.
