Hoax Caller Who Issued 'Bomb Threats' To Airlines, Banks Arrested In Nagpur
A person, suspected of making bomb threats to airlines, banks, and other organisations has been arrested from Maharashtra's Nagpur.
The suspect, who made fake bomb calls to airlines, hotels, banks and other places has been arrested in Nagpur, Maharashtra. According to sources, the person who made the calls to airlines, hotels, banks and other places for several days has been arrested.
News website The Times Of India reported the suspect was identified as 35-year-old Jagdish Uikey, an author. TOI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta Khedkar as saying that a series of emails sent to different organisations led them to Jagdish Uikey, who was holed up in Gondia.
Uikey's latest threat to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishanaw led the police to strengthen security at railway stations. Uikey had written a book on terrorism and was arrested in 2021 in another case.
The arrest comes two days after a 25-year-old man was taken into custody by Delhi Police. The suspect reportedly confessed to having made fake threats, the police claimed. The man was identified as Shubham Upadhyay from Rajapuri, reported news website NDTV.
Earlier on October 16, a teenager, who had dropped out of school, was held by the police from Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh for allegedly threatening to blow up 4 flights. Due to his threats, two fights were delayed and one was cancelled.
There has been a spate of bomb threats to aircraft, schools, malls, hospitals, banks, and other public places across the nation over the past few months. However, most of these threats turned out to be hoaxes. The threats seemingly came from different sources with no apparent links. Among these, a series of bomb threats in Assam, purportedly by militant organisation ULFA, in August led to the recovery of "IED-like objects" across Guwahati.
