Himachal Weather: Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide In Shimla, Orange Alert Issued For Next Week— WATCH

Another landslide along the Dharamshala–Chataro–Gaggal route brought traffic to a standstill, with road-clearing operations currently underway.

Several parts of Himachal Pradesh were lashed by heavy rainfall on Friday, triggering landslides and disrupting normal life in many areas. Shimla, too, was hit by a landslide today following incessant rain.

Visuals showed a portion of a hill crumbling and falling on the road and blocking the route. The landslide also resulted in traffic disruptions in the area. However, no major damage or injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the local meteorological department has issued an orange alert for intense rainfall at isolated locations in Himachal on June 22, 23, 25, and 26.

Another landslide along the Dharamshala–Chataro–Gaggal route brought traffic to a standstill, with road-clearing operations currently underway. A portion of the Tauni–Hatkoti route in the Upper Shimla region was also damaged in a landslide.

In Pandoh, waterlogging at Shahid Inder Singh Middle School caused significant difficulties for students.

The Met Office has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in isolated parts of the state on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, while a yellow alert has been issued for June 24, with prediction of heavy showers in isolated pockets.

According to rainfall, Nahan topped the list with 84.7 mm, followed by Pandoh (35 mm), Slapper (26.3 mm), Sarahan (20.5 mm), Poanta Sahib (19.8 mm), Jogindernagar (19 mm), Pachhad (17.2 mm), Rampur (15.6 mm), and Gohar (15 mm).

Thunderstorms also swept across Sundernagar, Shimla, and Kangra, while Bajaura recorded wind gusts reaching up to 37 km/h.

The meteorological office has advised caution, warning that intense rain could lead to landslides and mudslides in vulnerable zones, water accumulation in low-lying areas, and damage to weak infrastructure. Drivers are urged to be cautious due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Favorable conditions are expected to aid further progress of the southwest monsoon into more regions of Himachal Pradesh over the next few days.
