Heavy Rain Triggers Flood In Falgu River Ahead Of Monsoon In Bihar; Dozens Rescued

The river water turned into a flash flood, stranding several people on the eastern bank. As the situation turned critical, district authorities deployed teams from NDRF.

With the arrival of the monsoon in Bihar, people finally got relief from the scorching heat. However, continuous heavy rainfall has also led to chaos, especially in Gaya district. Over the past two days, intense downpours have caused a sudden rise in the water level of the Falgu River.

The river water turned into a flash flood, stranding several people on the eastern bank. As the situation turned critical, district authorities deployed teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Using boats, all those trapped were successfully rescued and brought to safety.

Tributaries In Spate, Flood-Like Situation in Nearby Areas

The Falgu River’s two tributaries, the Mahatma River and Lokayik River, also swelled due to the strong current, pushing water levels beyond the danger mark. This has led to flood-like conditions in nearby areas.

In the Patna district, embankments were breached at three points in the Daniyawan block and two locations in the Fatuha block. As a result, several farmlands have been submerged, causing significant damage to paddy crops. Young paddy saplings across acres of farmland have drowned, leaving farmers deeply worried about their losses.

The impact of the rain has not been limited to agricultural fields. Residents in low-lying areas are also facing severe disruptions. Water has entered slums and makeshift homes, creating hardship for poor families.

On a positive note, the local administration is closely monitoring the situation. Special teams are on standby and can be dispatched to affected areas if necessary. Officials have indicated that a team might be sent to assess the conditions in Daniyawan and Fatuha.
