Gurugram Comes To Standstill As Roads Flooded, Offices Announce Work From Home

Gurugram recorded 133 mm of rainfall by 8:30 am, while nearby Wazirabad tehsil received 122 mm. The downpour, which began late Wednesday, led to widespread flooding across the city.

Heavy overnight rainfall threw Gurugram into chaos on Thursday, leaving major roads submerged, residential areas waterlogged, and traffic at a near standstill. Commuters faced severe disruptions, with long traffic snarls stretching into the early hours.

According to the district administration, Gurugram recorded 133 mm of rainfall by 8:30 am, while nearby Wazirabad tehsil received 122 mm. The downpour, which began late Wednesday, led to widespread flooding across the city.

Crucial stretches such as the Narsinghpur section of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway, areas around Basai, and Golf Course Extension Road were inundated. Officials also noted that roads near Rajiv Chowk, Sheetla Mata Road, Sadar Bazaar, and the Bus Adda area were submerged.

Reports of severe waterlogging also emerged from Basai Chowk, Khandsa, Sanjay Gram Road, Sohna Road, Subhash Chowk, and multiple sectors, including 30, 31, 40, 45, 47, 51, 22, 23, 4, 5, 12, 13, and 48.

Gurugram Traffic Comes To Standstill

As water-clogged arterial routes, traffic came to a grinding halt across several parts of the city. The Gurugram Traffic Police posted a warning on X alerting residents about congestion:

Waterlogging has been reported at many places across Gurugram due to heavy rain since last night. Traffic jams with movement disruption may take more than the usual time to commute.

NH-48 was particularly hard hit, with a 7 to 8-kilometre-long queue of vehicles stretching from Narsinghpur to Delhi’s Rajokri late Wednesday night.

At Subhash Chowk, nearly 2.5 feet of water had accumulated, stranding vehicles and commuters in a snarl that lasted until 2 am on Thursday.

Frustrated residents took to social media to voice their grievances and demand accountability from the authorities. Many posts criticized the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for its handling of stormwater drainage.

Responding to public outrage, the MCG issued a statement on X: "Required machinery is operational to ensure discharge of storm water. Drains are running at full capacity due to high rainfall."
