Bihar BJP Leader, Businessman Gopal Khemka Shot Dead, 6 Years After Son's Murder

Unidentified assailants targeted him as he exited his car. This incident revives past family tragedy, recalling the murder of Khemka's son six years prior.

Gopal Khemka Murder: A prominent businessman in Bihar and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead in the capital city of Patna late on Friday night in the city's Gandhi Maidan area.

Khemka, a well-known industrialist and owner of Magadh Hospital, was targeted by unidentified assailants near his residence at Ram Gulam Chowk while stepping out of his car.

This tragedy echoes a past family trauma, as Khemka’s son, Gunjan Khemka, was murdered six years ago by criminals in the Industrial Area of Vaishali district.

Following Friday night’s attack, senior police officials and Gandhi Maidan police rushed to the scene and have launched a thorough investigation.

Patna Superintendent of Police, Diksha, said the police got information about the murder on the night of July 4 at around 11 pm. She said that one bullet and a shell have been recovered from the crime scene that has been secured, and a further probe is underway.

"On the night of July 4, at around 11 pm, we received information that businessman Gopal Khemka had been shot dead in the south area of the Gandhi Maidan," the SP told ANI.

"The crime scene has been secured, and further investigation is underway... One bullet and one shell have been recovered...," she added.

Gopal Khemka's brother, Shankar, said the family members are not aware of threats or warnings that the deceased faced, which could be a probable reason for the murder.

A team of forensics experts reached the crime scene to collect evidence.

Following the murder, MP Pappu Yadav reached Khemka's residence late in the night.

Reacting to the incident, BJP leader and former Union Minister Ram Kripal Yadav said, "Gopal Khemka was a prominent and respected businessman of Patna, deeply involved in social service and always dedicated to the welfare of society."
