ED Summons Ex-Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel's Son Chaitanya For Questioning In Liquor 'Scam' On March 15

An FIR has been filed against the 15-20 people who protested and attacked the ED team while they were leaving Bhagel's residence after searches.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's son Chaitanya Baghel will now be appearing before the Enforcement Directorate on March 15. He was earlier supposed to appear before the ED today, however, he sought for some time from the agency, following which fresh summonses were issued.

The development comes a day after ED raided the premises of Bhupesh Baghel in Bhilai's Mansarovar Colony, among 14 other locations in the state related to Chaitanya Baghel as part of a money laundering investigation against his son Chaitanya Baghel in an alleged liquor scam case.

The searches went on for about eight hours during which the ED seized about Rs 30 lakh in cash and some documents, news agency PTI reported citing its sources.

FIR Filed For Attack On ED Vehicles After Raids

A massive row was sparked after the raids were conducted and the ED team was attacked while it was leaving Baghel's premises. The Durg Police has filed an FIR into an incident of obstruction and stoning of a vehicle which was part of the ED team's convoy.

In his complaint, the driver said that nearly 15-20 protestors stopped the four-wheeler while it was leaving around 4:30 PM on Monday from Baghel's residence and some people even climbed on the bonnet.

"Some one also hurled a stone that hit the front windshield of the vehicle," the FIR said.

The police has pressed sections related to rioting [191(2)], unlawful assembly (190), voluntary obstructing public servant (221), assault or use of criminal force against a public servant (132) and wrongful restraint [126(2)] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 3 of the Public Property destruction law against a man identified as Bhilai resident Sunny Agarwal and 15-20 others, PTI reported.

The former CM was present at the house during the action. He later questioned the raids with the Congress alleging that the searches were a conspiracy to manage headlines on the day when Parliament's Budget session reconvened since the government faced questions from the opposition on multiple issues.
