'Delhi Ministers Demand 10% Commission To...': Atishi After Parvesh Verma 'Suspends' PWD Engineer
Former Delhi CM Atishi alleges BJP ministers are demanding a 10% commission on new projects, pressuring officers with suspension threats. She criticizes Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma for his remarks.

After Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma made a presence on the ground and called out the government officers, saying they had become thick-skinned, Former Delhi CM Atishi Marlena conducted a press conference in which she criticized the language used by Parvesh Verma.
On Friday, Delhi Minister Parvesh Verma stressed that the newly-elected BJP government in the city "will leave no stone unturned" to bring a change in the existing system and resolve all the issues. He issued a stern warning to Delhi officers who were showing negligence. His remarks came after he ordered the suspension of an executive engineer over poor desilting of a drain in the Akshardham area. He stated that officers had become "thick-skinned" over the last ten years and those who had not been working would now be forced to work hard in the field. "If there is any negligence, we will take strict action against the officer concerned," he said.

"There are several issues. We, too, have decided that we will not shy away from working hard. The officers who had not worked for the last 10 years, while the entire system of Delhi was on the brink of collapse - we will make all such officers work," Verma added.
"Our government is out on the ground, we have given strict directions to the officers, negligence will not be tolerated at all. The existing system will have to be changed and we will resolve all issues. We will leave no stone unturned...In the last 10 years, officers have become thick-skinned; we will get rid of this. We are making all of them work on the ground. I, too, am working on the ground," Verma said.
Atishi Marlena’s Counterattack
In response, former Delhi CM Atishi Marlena held a press conference criticizing Verma's remarks and the alleged behavior of BJP ministers. She claimed that the BJP ministers had started demanding commissions from government officers, leading to a breakdown in work across various departments.
"Since morning, the PWD minister of Delhi has been abusing government officers. He is saying that the officers are not working, they are not listening to ministers. But these are the same officers who have done excellent work in the last 10 years. These are the officers who built better schools, hospitals, and highways. So what changed in the last month that made these officers stop working?" she questioned.

Marlena further alleged that many officers had informed her that BJP ministers were demanding a 10% commission on all new projects. "Any new construction, be it a road, a hospital, or a Mohalla Clinic, will require a 10% commission for the ministers. When officers refuse to comply, they are being pressured with threats of suspension," she claimed.
She pointed out that under the GNCTD Amendment Act, no minister has the power to suspend an officer. "Any decision regarding suspension will go to a committee, and they will make the final decision," she explained.
No Power To Suspend Anyone
Taking a dig at the BJP, newly-appointed Delhi AAP chief and former minister Saurabh Bharadwaj asked the saffron party not to feel bad, reminding it that the elected government in the national capital cannot suspend any officer. Don't feel bad; the elected Delhi government cannot suspend any officer. This power has been snatched away from the Delhi government by the BJP central government.
The Centre had told the Supreme Court that these powers cannot be given to an elected government, Bharadwaj said in a post on X.AAP national general secretary (organisation) Sandeep Pathak also took on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that it is using officers as scapegoats to cover up its own failures.Earlier, the BJP was blocking officers from working just to target the AAP.
Addressing allegations made by BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Sirsa regarding waste burning, Marlena accused the BJP of making excuses. "When BJP fought elections, they said, 'No excuses, only change.' But now, in just one month, they are already making excuses. Sirsa Ji has not done any work in a month, nor has he given any vision. His only job is to abuse AAP and Arvind Kejriwal," she said.
She also stated that many officers in Delhi were now trying to transfer out of the city. "For ten years, AAP ministers never asked for commissions. But within one month, every BJP minister is demanding 10% commission, abusing officers, and threatening them with suspension. This is why many officers are now seeking transfers out of Delhi," she added.
