BJP Gets HC Nod For Kolkata Rally Over Removal Of Hindu Names From Voter List
The Calcutta High Court has approved the BJP's rally in Kolkata on Thursday to protest alleged voter list removal of Hindu names by the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has received a nod from the Calcutta High Court to organise a rally in Kolkata on Thursday against the alleged removal of Hindu names from the voter list in West Bengal.
Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari announced the "Save Hindu voters from TMC" rally" to highlight the issue of alleged removal of Hindu names from voter list by the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state, reported India Today.
The Kolkata police earlier refused the route requested by Adhikari citing school examinations and potential traffic disruptions, proposing an alternate route. However, the BJP leader moved the High Court to get the permission.
Conditions Set By Court
The court while granting the permission for the rally allowed it to proceed to the Y Channel in Dharmatala, with a maximum strength of 1,000 participants. The court also ordered that the event must be completed between 4 pm and 6 pm.
After the rally would arrive at the Y Channel, a delegation of the party will march to the Election Commsission to submit a letter highlighting their concerns about the alleged removal of Hindu voters from the electoral rolls.

Adhikari has been vocal over the issue saying that the rally is a necessary step to address what he perceives as a targeted removal of Hindu names from the voter list.
The saffron party has claimed that the TMC has added Bangladeshis and Rohingya voters to the electoral rolls while removing Hindu voters amid a recent clarion call by TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to clean up fake voters.
BJP's Bengal unit chief Sukanta Majumdar, Leader of Opposition in state assembly Suvendu Adhikari and party's state unit co-incharge Amit Malviya have raised such allegations against the ruling TMC.
Majumdar has blamed “the politics of appeasement” in Bengal and alleged that the Hindus are being removed from the voter lists. The MoS has met Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday and apprised him about it.
