ABP Live Green Vision Conclave 2024: '70% Of Pollution That Delhi Faces Is Generated By Neighbouring Cities', Says Environment Min Gopal Rai

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that only 30 per cent of the air pollution that Delhi faces is generated by the locals. 

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai while speaking at the ABP Live Green Vision Conclave 2024 highlighted the grave issue that the nation faces i.e., air pollution. While talking about Delhi's part in this, he said that 70 per cent of the air pollution that the national capital has to endure is generated by the neighbouring cities. He added that only 30 per cent of the air pollution is generated by the locals of Delhi. 

He further said that out of the 30 per cent of pollution generated by the Delhiites, 50 per cent of that is generated by vehicular emission.

Gopal Rai Blasts Neighbouring States

Rai slammed the neighbouring cities and states for increasing pollution and having no method for checks and balances to curb it. He said, "I am the Environment Minister for Delhi but who is the Environment Minister for Uttar Pradesh? Who is the Environment Minister for Madhya Pradesh?"

He further added that the neighbouring cities have a much higher Air Quality Index (AQI) than Delhi. He said Delhi measures the AQI and tries to curb it. He further said that Other states have no mechanism for measuring it and they don't do much to curb it.

He concluded by saying that after AAP came into power, it has reduced the air pollution in Delhi by 34 per cent.
