Tamil Nadu Tax Authorities Start Inspection At M&M's Chennai Office

The company confirmed that the inspection has not affected its operations, which are proceeding as normal. Based on the initial review, M&M does not anticipate any material impact from the outcome

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said on Saturday that state tax authorities in Tamil Nadu have started an inspection of the company's records at one of its business locations in Chennai. According to the company's regulatory filing, the authorization for the inspection and search proceedings was issued by the Additional Commissioner (ST), Intelligence-I (FAC), Chennai-6 under the provisions of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Act of 2017. 

The company confirmed that it is cooperating with the authorities during the ongoing inspection process.

The State Tax Officer, Gr-I, Intelligence - I, Chennai-6, subsequently began an inspection of the records at one of Mahindra & Mahindra's business locations in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company further stated that the authorization for the inspection and search proceedings, dated December 26, 2024, was presented to its officials on December 27, 2024, at approximately 12:15 pm.

"The GST officials have inspected the records and given some observations on certain GST compliance issues and have advised the company's officials to submit the necessary documents for reconciliation," it said.

During the inspection, the officers requested records related to transactions involving the supply of goods or services, including payments under reverse charge and input tax credit claims for a specified period. Mahindra & Mahindra officials fully cooperated with the GST officials, providing clarifications and details as requested. The company also stated that it would continue to provide any additional documents required during the proceedings.

The company confirmed that the inspection has not affected its operations, which are proceeding as normal. Based on the initial review, M&M does not anticipate any material impact from the outcome of the proceedings. The company emphasised that it has “always maintained high standards with respect to compliance of all laws and regulations, including the prompt payment of applicable taxes.”
