Shark Tank India Judge Anupam Mittal Calls Starbucks' Coffee, Beverages More Toxic Than Tobacco Cos
The comments from Mittal came in the aftermath of the coffee franchise announced the appointment of Brian Niccol to replace its Indian-origin CEO, Laxman Narasimhan
Shark Tank India judge, Anupam Mittal, lashed out at Starbucks for selling low-quality beverages and desserts. Shaadi.com founder hit out at the coffee chain for offering high-sugar coffee and desserts to their customers.
The comments come in the aftermath of the coffee franchise announcing a replacement for its CEO. Notably, Starbucks earlier this week said that it is bringing in Brian Niccol to replace its Indian-origin CEO, Laxman Narasimhan.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the People Group founder said, “Starbucks continued value erosion is inevitable unless they go back to their roots or reinvent their raison d’etre. Right now they are less of a coffee shop and more of a dessert store with criminal levels of disguised sugar making people sick. Probably more toxic than tobacco cos.”

However, Mittal appreciated the company’s move to bring in Brian to lead the franchise. Users expressed their agreement with the viewpoint and said that the sugar content in the firm’s products was extremely high.
One of the users commented, “The only coffee I end up having every time is Americano. Everything else at @StarbucksIndia @Starbucks is at best a coffee flavoured dessert.”
However, one of the users pointed out that the general consumers in the country are not very particular about their sugar consumption. “India is a lower-middle income country and if you talk to a regular guy about sugar in food products, most probably he/she will laugh at you. People are not health conscious, all they care about is taste,” the user said.
