There has been a significant surge in job demand within India's renewable energy sector, a report highlighted on Wednesday. The period of 2023-24 saw a notable growth of 23.7 per cent, paralleled by a steady decrease in attrition rates. According to a report by staffing company TeamLease Services, the renewable energy sector has seen a significant jump in job opportunities. In FY24, there was a staggering 23.7 per cent increase, compared to 8.5 per cent in FY23.

The report highlighted an exceptionally high demand for roles in tier II and III cities, where most renewable energy projects are situated. It also noted a significant increase in demand for positions such as solar PV and wind turbine technicians and installers, roofers, production operators, storage operators, and waste management specialists, in addition to the traditionally sought-after roles in operations, maintenance, and technical fields.

"We are witnessing a positive trend in the renewable sector's workforce. The renewable energy sector is more than just about green energy, it is about fostering a resilient and engaged workforce passionate about making a difference. The decline in attrition rates is a testament to the fact that employees are not only finding meaningful careers but are also deeply engaged and motivated by their impactful work," said Subburathinam P, TeamLease Services CSO Staffing.

The report's insights revealed a decrease in the attrition rate to 33.5 per cent in FY24, compared to 38.8 per cent in 2022-23. This substantial decline signifies a heightened sense of stability and job contentment among employees within the renewable energy sector, according to the report.

"The growth in jobs and reduced attrition rates in the renewable energy sector highlight the industry's evolving dynamics. There is a commitment to creating an environment where talent thrives and contributes to a sustainable future. Our insights underscore the industry's advancing phase, marking a transformative chapter characterised by resilience and opportunities in the renewable energy sector," said TeamLease Services CEO of Staffing Kartik Narayan.

According to the report, 22.9 per cent of the workforce possess qualifications equivalent to completing 10th and 12th grades, while 73 per cent hold credentials from ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes), diplomas, or undergraduate degrees. Additionally, 4.1 per cent of the workforce holds postgraduate degrees. The report also emphasised that this diverse educational background underscores the sector's inclusive recruitment approach, welcoming individuals from various academic disciplines to contribute to the renewable energy mission.
