Two Vande Bharat Express trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar will also be flagged off, offering faster and more comfortable options for commuters, tourists, and pilgrims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir on June 6 to unveil a series of ambitious infrastructure and connectivity projects totaling over Rs 46,000 crore. As part of his itinerary, he will inaugurate two major engineering marvels – the Chenab and Anji bridges – and flag off Vande Bharat trains to further enhance regional integration and transport efficiency.
At around 11 am, the Prime Minister will visit the deck of the Chenab Bridge, the tallest railway arch bridge globally, soaring 359 meters above the Chenab River. The steel arch spans 1,315 metres and is designed to withstand high wind speeds and seismic activity. The bridge significantly reduces travel time between Katra and Srinagar to about three hours, cutting the journey by nearly 2–3 hours and linking the region more effectively to the national rail network.
Anji Bridge: India’s First Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge
Following this, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India’s inaugural cable-stayed railway bridge. Built in a challenging topography, it stands as a milestone in India’s rail infrastructure development.
USBRL Project And High-Speed Rail Connectivity
Prime Minister Modi will also dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) to the nation. This 272-km-long rail corridor, developed at a cost of approximately Rs 43,780 crore, features 36 tunnels covering 119 km and 943 bridges. The project establishes seamless, all-weather connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India, promising to transform logistics and economic integration in the region.

Boost To Road Connectivity And Healthcare
In a parallel initiative to improve road infrastructure, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for the widening of the Rafiabad-Kupwara stretch on NH-701 and the Shopian bypass on NH-444. These road projects are worth over Rs 1,952 crore. Additionally, flyovers at Sangrama Junction on NH-1 and at Bemina Junction on NH-44 will be inaugurated to ease traffic congestion in Srinagar.
Further strengthening the region’s healthcare ecosystem, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra. The Rs 350 crore project will mark the establishment of the first medical college in Reasi district, significantly enhancing local medical infrastructure and education.
