Workplace Evolution: 10% Of 2024 Hires Hold Job Titles That Didn’t Exist In 2000, Says Report
Positions such as Sustainability Manager, AI Engineer, Social Media Manager, and Customer Success Manager have now become essential across various industries, but initially, they did not exist
We all know that the corporate and workforce landscape is evolving rapidly, but a recently released LinkedIn Work Change Snapshot confirmed this even further. It showed that 10 per cent of jobs filled globally in 2024 featured titles that were virtually non-existent in the year 2000. Positions such as Sustainability Manager, AI Engineer, Social Media Manager, Data Scientist, and Customer Success Manager have now become essential across various industries, but initially, they did not exist.
This shift is primarily fueled by technological advancements like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and an increased focus on sustainability. Among 5,000 global business leaders surveyed, 82 per cent in India reported witnessing a swift transformation in the workplace. This transformation is marked by a growing demand for new roles, skills, and innovative technologies that are fundamentally reshaping job requirements.
With Generative AI leading the charge, 70 per cent of global business leaders have identified AI adoption as a top priority for 2025. Ruchee Anand, Head of Talent Solutions at LinkedIn India, emphasised this trend: "As we look to 2025, businesses are increasingly prioritising AI adoption, alongside meaningful investments in upskilling and reskilling their people. Embracing AI is not just about keeping pace; it's about empowering teams, fostering innovation, and creating resilient workforces ready to thrive."
In India, HR professionals are acutely aware of the changing landscape; nearly 69 per cent report that workplace expectations have reached an all-time high. Around six in ten believe that experience alone is no longer sufficient to remain competitive, with more than half stating that career advancement now heavily relies on proficiency in AI.
Tech advancement took centre stage for companies during the COVID-19 pandemic, which further accelerated technological advancement, leading to the requirement of new roles that are emerging today. These innovations have not only improved the quality of life but also the quality of jobs, making AI do redundant work.
