How To E-Verify Income Tax Returns: Check Step-By-Step Guide Here

Taxpayers are required to verify their income tax return (ITR) in order to finish the return filing process. If you don't verify it on time, ITR will be considered invalid

Over 6.7 crore income tax (I-T) returns for the financial year 2022-23 (assessment year 2023-24) have been filed as of July 31, according to the I-T department website. However, filing ITR is only half work done. Taxpayers are required to verify their income tax return (ITR) in order to finish the return filing process. If you don't verify it on time, ITR will be considered invalid. The CBDT has shortened the ITR verification time restriction to 30 days (down from 120 days) from the date of return filing.

E-verification is the most simple and quick way to verify your ITR. However, if you prefer not to e-verify, you can send a physical copy of the ITR-V to be verified. The income tax department offers multiple ways to e-verify ITR, including Aadhaar, bank account, net banking, bank ATM, demat account and through Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).

However, taxpayers may request that the delay in verification be excused by providing a legitimate explanation. They will be allowed to e-verify the return only after submitting such a request. However, the return will be treated as valid only after the condonation request has been approved by the competent Income Tax Authority.
