Infosys Lays Off 240 Entry-Level Employees After Failing Internal Assessments: Report
In addition to the severance, affected trainees will receive one month’s salary, accommodation, and a travel allowance to return from the training center in Mysuru to Bengaluru or their hometowns
Infosys has terminated 240 entry-level employees after they failed to clear internal assessments, according to company emails reviewed by Moneycontrol and sent on April 18. This follows a similar round of layoffs in February, when the IT services giant let go of over 300 trainees under comparable circumstances.
To support the affected individuals, Infosys is offering free upskilling opportunities through NIIT and UpGrad.
The layoffs come amid a challenging business environment for the Indian IT major. Infosys recently projected flat to modest revenue growth of 0–3 per cent for the current financial year, reflecting continued softness in client demand across key markets.
An internal email informed impacted employees, “Further to the announcement of the results of your final assessment attempt, please be informed that you have not met the qualifying criteria in the ‘Generic foundation training program’ despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, several mock assessments, and three attempts. As a result, you will not be able to continue your journey for the apprenticeship program,” the email states, as per the report.
“As you explore opportunities outside of Infosys, we have planned professional outplacement services to help you on that journey. We also wish to offer you another career pathway, by taking an Infosys sponsored external training to prepare for potential roles in the BPM industry. On successful completion of the training, you may also apply to available opportunities in Infosys BPM Limited. However, if you wish to continue honing your IT skills, you also have an option to choose an Infosys sponsored external training program on Information Technology fundamentals to further support your IT career journey,” the email added.

Infosys has partnered with UpGrad for Business Process Management (BPM) training and with NIIT for Information Technology (IT) training. These upskilling programs are being offered at no cost, and the initiative has also been extended to those impacted during the earlier round of layoffs in February.
According to the report citing sources familiar with the matter, around 730 trainees from the October 21, 2024, batch appeared for their third and final assessment attempt on April 17, 2025. The results for the next group of trainees, scheduled to take their third and final attempt, are expected to be released next week.
