In A First, Petrol Price Breaches Rs 100-Mark In Mumbai; Check Latest City Rates Here

This is the 15th hike in fuel prices since May 4 which have pushed petrol and diesel rates to record-high levels across the country.

Mumbai: Petrol price breached Rs 100 mark In Mumbai on Saturday, retailing at Rs 100.19 per litre whereas diesel was priced at Rs 92.17 per litre. 

 According to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) data, Petrol price was hiked up to 26 paise while the price of diesel went up around 30 paise across metros.

Fuel rates were hiked on Saturday again taking the petrol price in the financial capital above Rs 100 per litre for the first time. Petrol in India's financial capital currently costs Rs 100.19 per litre whereas diesel was priced at Rs 92.17 per litre. 

This is the 15th hike in fuel prices since May 4 which have pushed petrol and diesel rates to record-high levels across the country. 

A litre of petrol in Delhi retails at Rs 93.94 and diesel is priced at Rs 91.87 per litre.

In Chennai, petrol and diesel prices stood at Rs 95.51 and Rs 89.65 per litre respectively. In Kolkata, prices increased to Rs 93.97 for petrol and Rs 87.74 a litre for diesel.

In several cities of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, rates had already breached the Rs 100-mark.

Fuel prices change from state to state factoring in the local taxes such as VAT and freight charges. Currently, Rajasthan imposes the highest value-added tax (VAT) on petrol, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Oil companies revise rates of petrol and diesel daily based on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market in the preceding 15-days, and foreign exchange rates.

Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan had the costliest petrol and diesel in the country at Rs 104.94 per litre and Rs 97.79 a litre, respectively. In 15 increases, petrol price has risen by Rs 3.54 per litre and diesel by Rs 4.16.
