Harsh Goenka Says Gurgaon Cremation Ground Has Cleaner Air Than Rest Of The City; Internet Reacts
Goenka's observation sparked amusement among users on X, who found it surprising and ironic that a cremation ground in Gurgaon had better air quality than some of the city's most populated areas
RPG Group Chairperson Harsh Goenka has highlighted that the air quality at a cremation ground in Gurgaon is significantly better than that of both the city and even Delhi. "If you are in Gurgaon/Delhi area and you want to be where the pollution (AQI level) is low, I have a suggestion where to go," he posted on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a screenshot of real-time pollution data. The list showed that areas like DLF Phase 1 and 2 had a "hazardous" AQI of 584 and 563, respectively, while the AQI at the cremation ground was much lower, at a moderate 95.
Goenka's observation sparked amusement among users on X, who found it surprising and ironic that a cremation ground in Gurgaon had better air quality than some of the city's most populated areas. Many users expressed their disbelief and humorously commented on the post.
“Thinking of a startup "Tea and Snacks Corner" outside every cemetery. Rents must be cheaper in such location,” wrote one of the X users.

Another user added, “If we remain in the North then the ultimate destination is Cremation ground only and this is the only reason people say "REST IN PEACE".”
“Sir, Am replying from there only. It’s fresh out here. I thought the smoke from cremation would be toxic but It’s refreshing. Yours faithfully, Recently Cremated Body due to Pollution related illness,” added a third user.
Last week, authorities in Gurgaon took urgent action to tackle the air quality crisis, urging private companies and multinational corporations to implement a 50 per cent work-from-home policy. "This is crucial in combating "severe+" air quality levels and supporting the Grap measures to improve air quality in the region," wrote Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, on X.
Authorities also instructed schools across the Delhi-NCR to adopt a hybrid learning mode. Schools were advised to conduct both online and in-person classes to ensure the safety of students and staff while minimising exposure to the severe pollution levels affecting the region.
