GST Filing Deadline Extension Possible After Brief Outage Of Filing Portal

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced that it will consider extending the deadline for Goods and Services Tax (GST) filing following an outage of the online portal on Friday, January 10, 2025.

“GST portal is currently experiencing technical issues and is under maintenance,” the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) wrote on X (Formerly Twitter). 

It was also noted that the portal is expected to be operational by 12:00 noon, and an incident report is being sent to the CBIC for consideration of an extension to the filing deadline. However, the CBIC has not yet issued a notification on the matter.

What Is The Deadline For Filing GST?

The deadline for filing GST is Saturday, January 11, 2025. For Quarterly Returns with Monthly Payment (QRMP) filers, the deadline is January 13, 2025, for the December 2024 tax period.

Who Is Eligible For Quarterly GSTR-1 Filing?

GST portal states that the quarterly filing of Form GSTR-1 is available to taxpayers whose aggregate annual turnover (based on PAN) is up to Rs 5 Crore in the current financial year and the preceding financial year (if applicable).

Additionally, taxpayers must have already filed their last due Form GSTR-3B return to be eligible for the QRMP scheme. Those with an aggregate turnover of up to Rs 5 Crore in the 2019-20 financial year and the current financial year, who filed Form GSTR-3B for October 2020 by November 30, 2020, will also be assigned to the QRMP scheme.

What Is Form GSTR-1?

According to the GST website Form GSTR-1 is a monthly/quarterly Statement of Outward Supplies to be furnished by all normal and casual registered taxpayers making outward supplies of goods and services or both and contains details of outward supplies of goods and services.
